An Environmental Management System (EMS) determines what impacts your organisation is having on the environment and then manages them. The benefits of doing this are clear, an EMS:

Ensures you are complying with regulation and makes managing compliance easier

  • Saves you money by improving efficiency
  • Demonstrates to your stakeholders that you are an environmentally aware

    organisation

  • Helps you to market your organisation and win tenders

Your EMS does this by assessing your organisation’s strengths and weaknesses, it identifies and manages significant impacts and works to continually improve your performance.

Why Acorn?

Acorn is an Environmental Management System with a difference. Using British Standard BS 8555 it is split into six manageable chunks called phases. This makes it a very flexible way to manage your performance, allowing you to achieve accreditation at a level that is appropriate to your organisation. You can choose when you want to be assessed – at the end of a phase or when you have implemented several. It also means you can pause and then pick it up again if you wish to progress further. It also provides a clear route to ISO 14001 certification or EMAS registration.

You’re in safe hands

Groundwork’s environmental experts have more than 15 years experience helping organisations to improve their environmental performance. In this time we have worked with a wide range of organisations both large and small and from the public, private and third sectors. We were the first consultancy to support an organisation in getting BS 8555 using the Acorn method. Our experts worked to manage the environmental impact of the G8 summit at Gleneagles and large government departments like the MOD. And, while we work with large companies like Trinity Mirror, we also work with numerous SMEs.
